The courtyard at dusk, a diya lit on every windowsill.

The angan is where the house stops being a building. It is where the light is put out at dusk, where the bird comes back at the same hour every evening, where the vine on the wall was never planted by anyone in particular but has been there longer than most of the family. Diwali just makes it visible — a diya on every sill, and suddenly the courtyard is the warmest room in the house.

This piece frames exactly that. A jharokha — the carved window arch of old Indian homes — is drawn in terracotta down the chest, a single diya burning on its ledge and a bird settled beside the flame, in no hurry to leave. Green vines climb the frame and spill down the side, small bells hanging where the arch meets the wall.

Cropped so the arch reads full at the chest, with the vine finishing right at the hem.

The Craft

• Block Printed and Hand Painted jharokha artwork in terracotta, complete with a lit diya and a resting bird
• Climbing green vine detailing that runs down the length of the panel
• Vertical off-centre placement, carried the length of the body rather than boxed at the chest
• Ecru heavyweight cotton base, cut for drape and structure
• Boxy cropped silhouette with a relaxed drop shoulder
• Finished, trimmed, and quality-checked entirely in-house
• Small-batch construction — each piece takes real hours, not seconds

How To Style

A full ivory skirt or high-waisted dhoti pants, a potli bag, oxidised silver. The terracotta and green do enough — keep the bottom half plain and let the jharokha sit front and centre.

The Fine Print

Every piece in the Festive Edit is handcrafted, which means no two are ever identical. Minor variation in placement, density, and tone between pieces is the signature of handwork — it is the craft, not a flaw. If you want two that match exactly, this is not that. Machine wash cold, inside out, gentle cycle. No bleach. Tumble dry low, or better, air dry.
